It is human to have a special day to celebrate ourselves, or something so dearly to us, we set aside a day in our live, a day we free ourselves from other activities and purposefully dedicate it to band together with like-minded individuals, to celebrate common interest, it happen in religion, business even in education. We just want to do away with everything for number of days to wine and dine and talk about previous activities centered on such interest we are celebrating, sometimes it come inform of retrospection and re-strategize on how to best promote the common interest, we look inwardly on the journey so far, the challenges and the progress and wrap it up with live performance of dance and music, such event do come annually and tagged as festival.

There are hundred of days to celebrate different activities in human endeavor, that of the Book, Art and literature are not in exception, there are days to band the entire world together in celebrating literature and some days are mainly categorized by people of literature in celebrating their craft, these events bring professional and newbie writers, book sellers and publishers under same roof to discuss some burning issues about Art and Literature and to celebrate the work of Art.

2014 has come with several promises of Literature and Art Festival, several event have been taken place in months back including the word literacy day Port Harcourt Book Capital and many more still ahead to watch out for. Here is the glimpse of some of these events you would love to be part off.

  1. The 2014 Neustadt Festival of international Literature and Culture, featuring writers and scholars from Africa, Europe and United States. This event that will take place on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus Octomber 22 through 24 was announced by OU’s award winning magazine Word Literature Today, the organizer of the Neustadt Festival.

The festival’s marquee author, Mozambican writer Mia Couto will receive the 2014 Neustadt International Prize for Literature at a ceremony during the week. The festival is open to the public with no admission charge, festival attendees will have numerous opportunities to interact with the writersAdditionally the winner of 2015 NSK Prize will be announced that week.   1. Ake Art and book Festival 2014. This is the second edition of this festival, the event is scheduled to take place between November 18 – 22, 2014, the event will feature many activities from showcasing the festival books, school visit, literary night, to publishers forum and many more. The venue for the event is at Egba land Abeokuta, Ogun State Nigeria. To learn more about this event visit akefestival.org
  2. 16th Lagos Book and Art Festival (LABAF). This year is of LABAF is to celebrate first African and Nigerians one and only Nobel prize Holder Prof. Wole Soyinka the Kongi himself. The Committee For Relevant Art (CORA) has declared 2014 ‘The Soyinka Year’ and proclaimed the theme of this year’s edition of the Lagos Book and Art Festival (LABAF) as Freedom &The Word, the event will take place between 10 – 16 November 2014.
